In addition to the popular anime ramen and oden cans, from vending machines in Akihabara, at one point people were able to also buy chocolate, strawberry, macha (green tea), butter, raisins, blueberry and milk bread cans, with the anime characters of Kuranada (Clannad) displayed. The bread cans were only sold at Akihabara station on the Sobu Line train platform, bound for Chiba Prefecture.

The bread cans were invented by “Pan Akimoto” after the Great Hanshin/Kobe Earthquake, for people to store in their Emergency Earthquake Preparedness Kits. The recording company Pony Canyon approached Pan Akimoto to have the popular anime characters on their cans. The bread cans were a limited edition and were to be sold only from the 1st of October, to the 31st. However, due to the popularity of Clannad, a month’s worth of bread cans were sold out on the very first day. Unfortunately, Pan Akimoto does not have any plans to produce and sell more of the Clannad bread cans. Therefore, die hard fans are still trying desperately to search online hoping someone is willing to give up their bread.
